Apps to go
Whiled away a few hours looking at UK travel apps for our forthcoming trip this afternoon. I like the London app with its quick lessons in history and especially language, right down to explaining that the expression "a sandwich short of a picnic" has nothing to do with food. Tourist attractions are searchable and linked to their location on a map - no more collecting dozens of sightseeing pamphlets on our travels. Journey Pro is a great app for planning your travel by rail, tram and river within London, with real-time timetable and travel information such as line closures or works. United Kingdom by Triposo looks promising, with plenty of travel information for destinations throughout Britain, but I gave up on Trip Advisors City Guides as the London guide was taking forever to load. Enjoy England looks interesting, with one click access to websites, directions (not surprisingly there are no driving directions from my current location) and phone access (if downloaded to your phone). With apps and books all loaded to my iPad, gone are the days of toting heavy tomes across the world.
